The first upset in the new Big Ten Conference men’s hockey alliance came to life last month.

During the inaugural media day get-together in St. Paul, Minn., Minnesota coach Don Lucia used the words “fresh” and “exciting” to describe the new operation and its projected impact on a rebooted college hockey mainframe.
