How It Happened: A scoreless but physical first period saw Penn State lead the shot count 15-5 although the quality scoring chances were far fewer for both teams. The Nittany Lions would continue to dominate the pace of play in the second period though and a Casey Bailey goal with just over 6 minutes remaining in the period would opening the scoring. Curtis Loik would add another tally only minutes later to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
