Opening Night: Minnesota scored three goals in seven minutes during the opening period to establish a firm lead over Penn State in what would become just the second shutout of the season for the Nittany Lions. Hudson Fasching scored with 5: 03 remaining in the first period to give the Gophers a 3-0 lead. Minnesota scored two quick goals in the final minutes of the third period to handily take Penn State.
