Jim Dahl runs a college hockey blog called College Hockey Ranked where he projects team pairwise rankings. Coming into this weekend, Penn State was his lead story. In the article, he noted that the potential was there for a huge downside for PSU. As it turns out, not much went right for PSU. The only good thing was that PSU did manage a split because things could have been much worse.
If you notice in Jim’s chart, his models predicted that with one win, there was about a 10% chance that PSU would wind up at 18 or 19 in the Pairwise. Given that we wound up 18th, pretty much everything that could have gone wrong for Penn State must have.
I’m going to be very interested in seeing what his PSU chart for next weekend looks like.
