The Lions welcome a ranked opponent to Pegula Ice Arena for the first time this season Thursday and Friday, when No. 16 UMASS-Lowell comes to town.
Thursday night games aren’t generally preferred by college hockey teams. They cut the practice week in half and make it difficult for fans outside of the team’s hometown to get to the arena.
But when programs like UMASS-Lowell, the nation’s No. 16 team (and pre-season No. 1) want to come to town, exceptions are made. And when there is a home football game on the same weekend a top-flight opponent comes to town, exceptions have to be made.
