Wounds take a long time to heal when they are left to fester and reopen. Medicine alleviates the initial pain, but the laceration lingers on, exposed to dirt and venom.
Penn State is still sewing up the gash that was left when its grand illusion was shattered by once revered administrators. Like any medical procedure, healing Happy Valley is a process — one that relies on positive reinforcement and a renewal of the basic virtues that once made the skin beneath that wound so pristine.
