Big Ten Hockey Weekly Wrap: Penn State sails, Michigan sinks

Spartans stalwart Jake Hildebrand received a long-awaited influx of support in an upset win over Ferris State. Sure, a record hovering over .500 is not ideal for a conference with several talent-laden teams, but it has been that kind of first month of the season. However, the few positives over the weekend should not be taken for granted.

3. Penn State

In its second consecutive weekend sweep, Penn State earned a pair of 3-2 victories over Bentley. Goaltender Matt Skoff was brilliant yet again, making 57 saves over the weekend to maintain his goals-against average to a sparkling figure of 1.96.

In the offensive zone, the Nittany Lions are showing no signs of slowing down. They are ranked third in the nationlevel with Robert Morrisin team offense with an average of 3.88 goals per game.

They just keep winning, which is something more conventional suspect from Michigan and Wisconsin cannot claim. Accordingly, Penn State will continue climbing these rankings, no matter what critics say about a soft schedule.
