Having only one full season and a handful of games of experience in Division I hockey, Penn State isn’t expected to hang with the likes of UMass Lowell, a Frozen Four team a year ago, and preseason No. 1.
After taking a bit of a beating in a 4-0 loss to the River Hawks on Thursday night, the second game of a double-header on Friday night would be the time for the Lions to make a statement, and show that they were better than that score indicated.
While the Nittany Lions fell to UMass Lowell again, 3-2, and dropped their record on the season to 3-5-1, the game was competitive, exciting, and gave the Lions a chance to not simply roll over and allow themselves get pummeled by a superior, more experienced opponent.
